A selection of four short films connected by a common thread: music. Travelling between South Asia, West Africa, South America and Europe, the films explore the many roles music can play: as labour, a means of preserving and transforming knowledge, a source of belonging, and a way of making sense of displacement. Together, they invite us to think about music not simply as entertainment, but as a practice woven into everyday life. The programmer Mariana Lafratta, a Birkbeck MA Film Programming and Curating student, will introduce the screening.
